Privacy Policy
Last updated: 6 September 2026
Search Insider is operated by Search Insider (ABN 89 727 858 076). This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
What we collect
When you subscribe to the newsletter. Your email address, and the page you subscribed from.
When you contact us or enquire about a service. Your name, email address, company name if you give one, the budget range you select, and the content of your message.
When you buy a service. Orders are processed through our client portal. Billing details and payment information are handled by the payment provider, not by us. We receive the order details and your contact information; we never see or store your full card number.
When you simply read the site. Standard server and analytics information: pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP address, referring site, browser and device type. We use this in aggregate to understand what people read.
We do not collect sensitive information as defined by the Privacy Act, and we ask that you do not send it to us.
Why we collect it
- To send you the newsletter you asked for
- To answer your enquiry and, if you become a client, to deliver and support the work
- To issue invoices, keep financial records, and meet our tax and record-keeping obligations
- To understand which articles are read so we can write more of what is useful
- To detect and prevent abuse of the site and its forms
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share your email address with other companies for their marketing.
Who else handles your information
We use third-party services to run the site. Each holds data on our behalf: hosting and application platform (serves the website); database, authentication and file storage (stores articles, subscribers and enquiries); client portal and payment processing (handles orders, invoices and payments); email delivery (sends the newsletter and transactional email); analytics (measures site traffic).
Some of these providers store or process data outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union. By using the site you consent to that transfer. We take reasonable steps to use providers that apply appropriate protections.
We will also disclose information where we are required to by law.
How long we keep it
Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe, plus a short record of the unsubscribe so we do not email you again. Enquiries: up to two years from your last contact. Client records: seven years, as Australian tax and record-keeping law requires. Analytics: as configured in the analytics platform.
Your rights
You can ask us to give you a copy of the personal information we hold about you, correct anything inaccurate, or delete it. Email us and we will respond within 30 days. There is no charge unless a request is unusually large or repetitive, in which case we will tell you the cost before proceeding.
Every newsletter contains a one-click unsubscribe link. It takes effect immediately.
Security
Data is stored with reputable providers using encryption in transit and at rest. Access to the administration area requires an account we create manually. There is no public sign-up. Database access is restricted at the row level so that unpublished content and enquiry records cannot be read by anyone other than an administrator.
No system is perfectly secure. If a data breach occurs that is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify affected people and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires.
Complaints
If you think we have mishandled your personal information, email us first and we will try to resolve it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes
We will update this page if our practices change, and change the date below. Material changes affecting subscribers will be announced in the newsletter.
